A Self Portrait...

Be Warned

A piece of advice I would give anyone is never underestimate instinct its more accurate and more reliable than anything any website has to offer.

I'm Pippakin, read the notice below if you want to continue wipe your feet before you enter: This is my house

I write for me, no one else. This is not a news blog. Its not a themed or campaigning blog, nor is it a beauty or popularity contest. This is an amateur blog, it contains whatever interests, infuriates or amuses me.

Do not come here thinking to see some startling snippet of news that the MSM and professional blogs somehow mysteriously missed you won't find it. If you are the kind of pedant who frets over every comma and has palpitations at the mere thought of a split infinitive: you're in the wrong place!

Some people paint as a hobby some sew or knit I write. In each and every case I am trying to paint a picture. It does not have to be a very good painting!

Blessings if you pass this way may you find you can see the picture. If you were looking for more there are many, very professional blogs, eager for your custom.

    Hi Pippakin,

We haven't talked in a while and you seem to have given up on Slugger.
    I've had an interesting experience.
Meredith and I went on a trip to turkey 2 months ago.. Absolutely awesome experience but on the last night I woke in the middle of the night unable to breath. Meredith got me to hospital in a very expensive ambulance and when I got there, my lungs and heart shutdown. They put me in an induced coma and on life support for a week, then another week in intensive care. Had to learn to do everything all over again, talking, walking etc. They refused to let me fly home immediately so had an enforced stay in an hotel. I had to buy a wheelchair to get around. Then I met a guy from Iraq who had his leg completely blown away when a booby trap bomb went off under his car. His wife and two kids were in the car with him but his body shielded them from damage. One night he asked if he could borrow my wheelchair to go to the mosque to pray. I agreed of course and he started to call me Mister Joe. It sort of stuck with my brothers who had flown out to help Meredith cope with all the challengs. When I left, I had intended to bring the wheelchair with me as I still needed it but I gave it to Hamid, thinking that he needed it more than me. So, Mister Joe it is for now. I'm recovering greatly here at home, and have re-found a kind of spirituality; none of that God business, of course.

Regards as always, Joe (formerly JoeCanuck)

  2. Joe. What a wonderful surprise...

Or Mr Joe I should say. I'm so sorry to hear you have been unwell and by the sound of it very seriously unwell, what a horrible end to what must have been a lovely holiday. I know you had heart problems in the past perhaps you had been over doing it, or maybe it was one of those unexpected occurances that can happen anywhere anytime.

I'm so relieved to know that you are home safe and hopefully now you can complete your recovery in the comfort of your home.

I still read Slugger but no longer comment there, I think I outstayed my welcome...I don't enjoy it as much as I used to it can seem repetitive and sometimes a bit of a chore.

Faith is all around and within us Joe may your faith help you recover and live a full and happy life.

I'm so pleased you stopped by and hope this blog wasn't too boring for you. I hope you visit again and maybe read this.

    Take care and be well

  3. Eileen,

    Thanks for your kind words.
According to the doctors at the American Hospital in Istanbul (private), the underlying cause was that I had picked up a lung infection. They were unsure whether it was bacterial or viral.
What a difference from our hospitals; a pianist performed for 4 hours each day on a grand piano in the lobby. Mind you, I, or rather my insurance company, paid $2000 a day while I was in intensive care. Nevertheless, the staff were wonderful and I made close friends with many of them, especially one of the doctors.
Full of energy and a renewed spiritual sense now.

    Best regards, Joe

  4. You came back! So nice...And after such a traumatic experience too. It sounds as though you enjoyed your stay in what? The very depths of decadence. I almost envy you. Your friend Hamid must be so grateful to you...

Feel free to knock on the door any time you're passing. Its always a pleasure to welcome friends. Nice choice of post to comment on too. You should bear it in mind: Instinct never lets us down.

I'm loooking forward to your return to Slugger...
